I have been practicing law in Asheville, North Carolina, since 1999. As a native of Asheville and a graduate of Asheville High School, I went on to attend Wake Forest University for both my undergraduate and law degrees.
After law school, I had the privilege of clerking for the Honorable John C. Martin at the North Carolina Court of Appeals. This year-long clerkship in Raleigh was invaluable, providing me with extensive experience in legal research, brief analysis, listening to oral arguments, and drafting proposed opinions for the three-judge panel. This experience honed my legal research and reasoning skills, laying a strong foundation for my future as a trial lawyer.
After several years in the Piedmont and Triangle areas of North Carolina, I was drawn back to the mountains and returned to Asheville. Initially, I worked with the large firm Van Winkle, Buck, Wall, Starnes, and Davis. However, in 2000, I realized my passion lay in family law and transitioned to work with my father, George Moore. Joining a smaller firm allowed me to focus on the type of practice where I knew I could excel. I soon focused exclusively on family law and felt confident in my choice.
Family law requires a unique approach, blending the roles of counselor, sympathetic listener, and tireless advocate. As a family lawyer, I navigate the emotional landscape of divorce, distinguishing when to be forceful and aggressive versus gentle and congenial. Every family is unique, and even the most amicable separations need careful handling.
My primary focus areas are complex Equitable Distribution and intricate custody cases. Custody matters, in particular, are both challenging and rewarding. I am committed to uncovering the full truth in custody cases, always aiming to serve the best interests of the children. I understand that this process is incredibly challenging for both you and your children, and I am dedicated to supporting you throughout the journey.
In addition to practicing in Asheville and Buncombe County, I also serve clients in Henderson County, where I currently reside. I love northern Henderson County for its excellent running trails, another passion of mine. I often run before work to prepare for the day. I've completed one marathon at the beautiful Biltmore Estate, numerous half marathons, adventure runs, and more. Outside of running, I enjoy reading, cooking, and relaxing with friends and family.
I am also deeply committed to volunteer work in the community. I was a long-time member of the Junior League of Asheville and currently serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Irene Wortham Center, which provides essential services for developmentally challenged adults and operates a daycare for children with diverse needs. Additionally, I volunteer with the Pisgah Legal Society, primarily representing victims of domestic violence pro bono. I am fortunate to be associated with these organizations that serve our community so well.
